Rugby in Barcelona

For those wondering whether Rugby Union exists in Spain, yes it does! Although overshadowed by a number of other sports, interest in the sport gained momentum after Spain qualified and competed in the 1999 Rugby Union World Cup.

For those wanting to have a run around in Barcelona there are a number of teams around. Most notebly, and within Barcelona city, FC Barcelona has a rugby division and Poble Nou Enginyers also have a few teams. Just outside the main part of the city in Sant Boi de Llobregat, U.E. Santboiana currently compete in Spain´s national competition and Sant Cugat and Hospitalet also have clubs competitng in competitions.

It is great to experience playing rugby in Spain, particularly for those who have played rugby in countries where rugby is a national sport. The players in Spain love the sport and know hoe to have a good time both on and off the field.

Although the season has already started (generally starts some time in October depending on the competition) I´m sure you could still get a run at any of the clubs. They are more than happy to accept people from all over the world wnating to play the game.
