Sights and shopping in Barcelona for Christmas holidays

When being in Barcelona during December whether you live here or just visiting there is a few places you should not miss out on:

– The 288 stalls of the Christmas market a.k.a Santa Llucia market on Avinguda de la Catedral. Not to be missed.

– The FC Barcelona Christmas decorations and lights on Calle Urgell (every street in Barcelona has Christmas lights on in the afternoons but the ones on Calle Urgell are super special, wouldn’t you say?).

– The Christmas creche on Plaza Jaume is quite a spectacle, also for the amount of people queueing to view it.

– If you have not been to Barcelona before there is a few tourist attractions you do not want to miss out on such as Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia (outside is actually way more cool than inside), La Pedrera (or Casa Milà and the roof is a magnificent must), Casa Batlló and Park Güell (great for bringing some wine, ham and cheese). Among museums I recommend Fundació Miró and the Picasso museum. Other than these locations mentioned, Barcelona is best experienced on foot by walking through all the “barrios”, such as Born, Gotico, Barceloneta and Raval.

– For your Christmas shopping, start at Passeig de Gracia where you will find all the designer shops (if you cannot afford them at least you will be inspired). Here you will also find the great little mall Boulevard Rosa and off Calle Valencia there is so so so many little boutiques that you do not want to miss (such as Nice days nice things for example). From here you keep on heading down towards Plaza Catalunya for Portal del Angel or Carrer Pelai where you will find loads and loads of well known stores as H&M, Zara, Mango, Oysho etc. Another great street for shopping is Carrer Portaferrissa and from there you either head for the Christmas Market mentioned above or head into Raval for great Vintage shopping and arts and culture.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, the most convenient and economic way is generally to rent your own apartment.
